Health
Rajasthan lags other States of India as far as status of health is concerned. Western part of Rajasthan fares even poorly as compared to rest of Rajasthan. Every year, 388 mothers die during every 100,000 deliveries. Infant mortality rate is 65 infants per 1,000 live births. The figures for Barmer, Jaisalmer and Jalore districts are 64, 79 and 52 children, respectively. The child mortality rate is 8.4 per 1,000 population.
The main reason of infant mortality is that deliveries are still done by untrained village dais, who use archaic methods of delivery. Very few deliveries are conducted in the guidance of skilled health workers. The area lacks health services. The government health workers are not giving quality health services at the village level and as a result there is lack of awareness among the people about health.
Interventions in health sector include:
- Dai capacity building programme
- Formation of village level pressure groups
- Anganwadi centre activation
- Sub-centre activation
- Awareness about basic health right
