Water Management

Water is life and used by us from morning to evening all through our lives. Principal problem of Western Rajasthan is water as the area has acute shortage of water. Because of recent developments in agriculture sector, importance and requirement of water in the area has further increased.

In ancient times, the area’s people developed good water management structures. But gradually these traditional methods of water management ignored and as a result the area gradually became bankrupt in water management. Because of neglect of decentralised water conservation system, the area faces recurrent drought.

Barmer and Jaisalmer districts in Western Rajasthan are most rain deficient areas of India with average rainfall less than 150 mm. In view of this, the organisation is making efforts for development and conservation of traditional water harvesting systems through multiple activities:

  • Beri repair work
  • Tanka construction
  • Advocacy for drinking water
